UEC-2A

UEC-2A was the first of the second generation UEC devices.  It was tested in a pressure chamber at Electric Boat Corporation.   Building UEC-2A revealed the following  flaws in its design.
  • An ineffective bleed mechanism for filling the chambers with mineral oil
  • Adhesive problems in attaching hardware
  • Front-mounted compensation bladders are in the way
  • Breakdown of electrical tape caused by mineral oil
  • Keyways (not shown below) were not long enough and could be misaligned in the tube
